With a worldwide gross of just under 500 million US dollars, animated adventure "Rio" was one of the biggest movies of 2011. Well now it's back with a second instalment.

Anne Hathaway, Nigel the Cockatoo spar over 'Rio 2'

Three years since the first movie came out, Blu and Jewel are back again in 2014 with their three kids in tow, heading off into the wilds of the Amazon to meet Jewel's father, Eduardo and fend off another attack by villainous cockatoo, Nigel. 20th Century Fox opted for the snappy title Rio 2.

"Well I mean when an audience comes to see a movie called 'The Passion of Nigel the Cockatoo and His Heart-Rending Crusade For Justice and Redemption' they expect to see an icon of cinema at the height of his powers, not a motley crew of silly parrots singing and flying and having fun," said Nigel, "Rio" villain.

Nigel, who was sucked into an aircraft propeller at the end of the first Rio, didn't enjoy his time in the Amazon for the sequel.

"You know the saying, 'It's nice to visit but I wouldn't want to live there?' Well that does not apply at all, it's a terrible, terrible, place. There's no mirrors, no newspapers, no plumbing, nowhere to get your claws done. I had to drink out of a puddle. Can you imagine? It wasn't even fizzy water, just regular. What do they think I am? An animal?" he said.

The cocky cockatoo also complained about Anne Hathaway, who voices female lead Jewel, interrupting his monologues.

"Well he takes forever. He never stops. He does all of them. It's not just a monologue. He's not representing the situation accurately," she said.

Nigel's distinctive voice and laugh are provided by New Zealander Jemaine Clement, who was forced to go to some dark places in order to channel his inner cockatoo.

"Nigel's at a real low point. This is quite a psychologically challenging role for me because where Nigel starts off is, he's emotionally and physically devastated. I plucked all my body hair out and thought about the most depressing thoughts I could and wrote them down and glued them to my body," said Jemaine Clement, actor.

A host of other celebrities lend their voices to the animation, from Jesse Eisenberg, will.i.am, Jamie Foxx, Bruno Mars, and many more.
