The second season is divided into eight episodes. Each episode is assigned a director, all of them born during the 1980s. The job has proved to be quite a challenge for them.

"Every minute in the documetary is selected from 150 minutes of footage. The entire production is a grueling process, we were asked to make so many changes by the chief director. Very often he gives us a list demanding dozens of changes," said Zheng Jie, director of episode 2, "Homemade".

"We want to use food as a window to introduce China to the world. Food is where we start the journey, but is never an end in itself," chief director Chen Xiaoqing said.

The second edition also features 20 percent more foods than the previous season. It is more international in its outlook, telling the stories of people behind the food culture.

The second season employed a host of new filming techniques including specially made cameras to capture minute details at extreme close distance.

Tune in to CCTV-1 at 9 pm for the series, it will be aired from April 18th to June 6th.
