On Monday, the chief prosecutor said the double-amputee athlete should be placed under psychiatric observation. This comes after an expert called by the defense said Pistorius has an anxiety disorder, which could have shaped the way he responded to perceived threats.
The expert said the disorder was a result of losing his lower legs as a baby, and his late mother's habit of sleeping with a gun under her pillow. The judge has not yet ruled on the prosecution's request.
Pistorius is charged with premeditated murder for shooting his girlfriend to death in February last year. But Pistorius's defense has argued that the killing was accidental because he mistook her for an intruder.
