American actress Angelina Jolie has dropped by Shanghai to promote her new film "Maleficent."

Jolie showed up in the black dress she wore for her role in the film "Maleficent." And fans took the opportunity to celebrate her birthday a day early.

"I would love to find something and what's the most important thing for artists is to be able to work with other artists in other parts of the world and learn about different ways in making films and doing cross-cultural projects. So I would hop somebody in China might reach out to me. Give me a chance," said Angelina Jolie, actress of "Maleficent" .

"Maleficent" is a live-action re-imagining of Disney's 1959 animated film "Sleeping Beauty." It tells a story of a beautiful, pure-hearted Maleficent who has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceful forest kingdom. And when an invading army threatens the land, she becomes its fiercest protector, but is ruthlessly betrayed - something that begins to turn her pure heart to stone.

Jolie's appearance as Maleficent frightened some of the young actresses auditioning for the role of young Sleeping Beauty. So the director cast Jolie's own daughter in the role.

"My children all really love the film. I'm very excited. My elder son said that I was funny and I should do more comedies. And my littlest boy now thinks that I can change birds into men," Angelina Jolie said.

The film was released on May 30th in the United States, where it earned 70 million US dollars on its opening weekend. It opens in Shanghai on June 20th.
