Taiwan's panda Yuan Zai, the first cub born to parents Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan, is celebrating her first birthday at the Taipei Zoo.

Yuan Zai goes through the traditional Zhua Zhou ritual, in which a child predicts his or her future by choosing an object. Then the cub enjoys her birthday cake. Yuan Zai weighed only 183 grams at birth. She's now 34 kilograms. The cub made her public debut back in January.

Parents Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan were gifts from the Chinese Mainland to mark warming ties with Taiwan in 2008. Zoo keepers say visitor numbers have increased 50 percent since January, for a cumulative total topping 2.4 million.
