A military parade has been held in Paris to celebrate Bastille Day or National Day.

The parade this year commemorated the centenary of World War I. Troops and officials from nearly 80 countries that fought in World War I gathered on the Champs-Elysees to take part in the event.

Bastille Day commemorates the storming of the Bastille by Parisian revolutionaries on July the 14th, 1789, which marked the start of the French Revolution. It became the French national holiday one year later.
