A party 24 years in the making is underway as the World Cup champions have arrived home, with the biggest prize in the game in tow.

The Mannschaft touched down in Berlin to a massive welcoming just hours ago, as tens of thousands gathered at the historic Brandenburg Gate for the chance to honour their footballing heroes.

On a brilliant sunshiney day the mood of those gathered certainly matched the conditions as they toasted the first European team to win a World Cup in South America.

The team arrived at Berlin's airport but not before a little fly over past their cheering fans. Germany edged Argentina 1-0 in extra time to win their fourth overall crown, and first as a unified nation following West Germany's win in 1990.

Captain Philipp Lahm led his team off the plane, clutching the World Cup trophy. After speaking to the media, the players boarded a bus to take them to an official parade in the city centre.
