Former NBA player, Yao Ming is taking on a new role -- besides being the owner of the Chinese basketball Association's Shanghai Sharks, and lending his name to numerous charitable causes -- the seven footer will now be acting as an ambassador during next month's youth olympics in Nanjing.

He is the third athlete to be honoured with such a role for the Games, the other two are South African swimmer Chad le Clos and American golfer Michelle Wie. Yao Ming will come to Nanjing during the Olympics to act as a mentor to young athletes, and provide guidance to the competitors
