The World Health Organization says there have been 1,440 confirmed or suspected cases of infection in West Africa. And more than 826 people have died.

Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia are the countries worst hit. They're sending troops to quarantine the border regions, and intensify controls at their international airports.

West African leaders agreed on Friday to take stronger measures to try to bring the worst outbreak of Ebola under control and prevent it spreading outside the region, including steps to isolate rural communities ravaged by the disease.

The US National Institutes of Health say they will begin testing an experimental Ebola vaccine on humans as early as September. And US health officials say at least three months are needed to bring the situation under control.
