'Thrones,' 'Fargo' and 'Coven' among top Emmys noms

The Primetime Emmys, celebrated every year to honor outstanding television programs. And with shows like True Detective, the Big Bang Theory and House of Cards in the mix, the competition is more fierce than ever.

The Big Bang Theory 



In the competitive best-drama series category, the year's top-nominated show ''Game of Thrones'' will compete with ''Breaking Bad,'' ''Downton Abbey,'' ''House of Cards,'' ''Mad Men'' and ''True Detective".

Netflix's ''House of Cards'' made a breakthrough last year as the first online series nominated for a major award. Now it has another chance to grab Emmy gold.

''Orange is the New Black,'' also from Netflix, is up for best comedy series, along with a nod for star Taylor Schilling.

Also competing for best comedy honors are ''The Big Bang Theory,'' ''Louie,'' ''Silicon Valley,'' ''Veep,'' and ''Modern Family,'' a four-time winner that has the chance to tie ''Frasier'' as the all-time winning sitcom with one more award.

''Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston is nominated Best actor in a television drama series, along with Jeff Daniels, Jon Hamm, Woody Harrelson, Matthew McConaughey, and Kevin Spacey.

The nominees for best actress in a TV drama series are Lizzy Caplan from ''Masters of Sex"; Claire Danes from ''Homeland", and Michelle Dockery from ''Downton Abbey". Julianna Margulies from ''The Good Wife"; Kerry Washington from ''Scandal" and Robin Wright from ''House of Cards'' also get nods in the category.
