The National Zoo in Washington threw a party Saturday in honor of the first birthday of panda cub Bao Bao. To celebrate, the cub got a cake made from frozen fruit juice and other treats like pears and apples. The National Zoo is one of only four zoos in the US to have pandas, which are on loan from China.
Bao bao -- the darling of the U.S. National zoo -- marked her first birthday.and she got a party fit for a princess.
First came the zhuazhou -- a chinese tradition where objects are placed in front of a baby -- each one said to predict its future.
In this case -- they were posters with symbols painted on them -- representing long life, good health and fertility.
It was a no brainer for Bao Bao -- she chose long life.
Then the classic American birthday treat -- a cake -- though without candles and the calories.
