Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong Province are the three regions in China with the most intellectual property dispute cases.

According to an annual report by the Beijing Municipal Higher People's Court, the capital's local courts accepted almost 9,700 IP law suits in 2013, a 14 percent increase over the previous year. Courts in Shanghai accepted almost 6,700 IP lawsuits last year, up more than 25 percent.

Shanghai has also seen a rising number of foreign-related IP lawsuits. Parties have sued for almost 1.8 billion Yuan or 300 million US dollars in damages over the past five years. Most of the IP lawsuits in China involve patents, trademarks, copyrights, and industrial design.

The most significant cases in recent years involved internet giants Tencent and 360, Chinese writers suing Baidu for copyright violation, and Tesla's trademark dispute in China.
