Half of Chinese population use Internet

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, there are 632 million internet users in China. That's about 47 percent of the total population. 527 million users access the net via their smart phones.

Among 67 listed internet companies in China, seven have made the top 30 list of the world best internet companies.

In the first half of 2014, 400 billion yuan revenue, about 65 billion US dollars, was generated through internet business, 47 percent of total income of the information and communication industry.

And the scale of on-line shopping keeps expanding...in 2012, China was the world's second largest e-commerce market following the US. In the first quarter of 2014, Chinese e-commerce business achieved 2.57 trillion yuan, about 418 billion US dollars, accounting for 4.4 percent of GDP.
