Now over to Northern Oman, where until recently a remote and scenic area was only accessible by boat. But since the opening of a luxury resort there, guests can now fly in by paraglider, or take a hair-raising trip in a 4 by 4 vehicle. Let's head over there for a look.

Those who arriving at the Six Senses Zighy Bay have found a new way to get there - by paragliding.

A spectacular way to arrive at one of the world's remote hotels.

There are few roads in Oman's rugged Musandam Peninsula. For centuries people relied on boats to travel to and from the villages dotted along the Indian Ocean in the shadow of the Hajar Mountains. This has meant that few tourists have made it to this part of Oman.

But those arriving at the Six Senses Zighy Bay have found a new way to get there - by paragliding.

Danielle Harte, an Australian living in Dubai, says she decided to try it, despite having a fear of heights.

"Thrilling, absolutely thrilling, exhilarating, all of those emotions that you feel when you are doing something for the very first time. It was always on the bucket list, something I always wanted to do and when we found out we were coming to Zighy Bay it was one of those things that we just needed to do and I'm so pleased that we did - to conquer those fears," said a tourist named Danielle Harte.

But those not plucky enough to jump can opt for the 4-wheel-drive journey.

The hotel is situated on the Musandam peninsula, a wild strip of land that stretches up into the Straits of Hormuz opposite Iran, with the Gulf of Oman on one side, the Persian Gulf on the other.

A road has been specially carved through the mountains to reach the resort which took five years to build.

The villas are built from local materials including bamboo, palm fronds and driftwood, but with a chic modern design.

"Zighy Bay just blends in perfectly with the location you know it doesn't stand out as many other hotels do. It's just part of the uniqueness of the beautiful hotel and the surrounding mountains," said Paul Jordaan, Manager of Six Senses Zighy Bay.

Many guests come to Zighy Bay to unwind and get away from their frenetic lives.

"We have some guests, they're trying to disconnect from all the media from all their mobile phones, ipods, ipads, computers, just to calm down which is very difficult. Fifteen years ago it was to get rid of cigarettes, today it's how to use the multi media and it's not easy. It's even more difficult than to get rid of cigarettes," said Souhel El-Achbah, Director of a SPA.

Zighy has 82 one and two-bed villas, plus a four bedroom private reserve. A pool villa varies from 720 to 1,079 US dollars per night, high or low season.
