"Diaoyu Islands, The Truth" is a documentary tracking the history of the Diaoyu Islands. The film uncovers facts about the Diaoyu Islands that show they have been Chinese territory since ancient times. The documentary is one of twelve documentaries in the "Mysterious China" series produced by Hollywood writer and director Chris D. Nebe.

At the beginning of the documentary, Chris D. Nebe makes clear his stance over the Diaoyu Islands.

Q1: I noticed that people from outside China especially from western countries prefer to use the Japanese name, Senkaku Islands, not Diaoyu Islands.(Nebe: But that's wrong) But you used the Chinese name Diaoyu Islands, why did you do that?

"Because Diaoyu Islands have been China's territory since ancient time. Already in the marine chart of Zhenghe, in his chart you can see Diaoyu Islands a part of China. After Japan illegally annexed Diaoyu Islands. On in 1900s, they changed the name to Senkaku. Actually, i am amazed that there should be discussion about the legitimacy of the situation as it ia claimed by Japan. Because this is a very clear case that Diaoyu Islands have been and are Chinese. And they should be given back by right away to China at a time that it will be appropriate and very good for Japan to apologize to China for the war crimes of Imperial Japan," said Nebe.

Another historical fact is that Japanese maritime chart of 1783, as well as the official 1876 map the the imperial Japan, shows Diaoyu Islands are not part of Japan.

The film not only presents the historical facts and documents about territorial entitlement, but also discloses brutal atrocities committed by the Japanese army in China. Most horrible are the Nanjing Massacre and the bacteriological tests on civilians.

"With experiments of bacteriological warfare, with plague , colora, anthrax and other lethal diseases, during the second Sino-Japanese War, weapons of mass destruction were extensively used against the Chinese. Forced into sexual slavery in Japanese military brothel in occupied countries, hundreds of thousands of Comfort Women endured serial rape day and night in these so called Comfort Station. They came from China, Korea and later from all over the Japanese occupied territories in Asia, among them, Australians as well as Dutch from Indonesia," said Nebe.

Germany and Japan were defeated at the end of World War two. After the war, Germany had a very open and honest attitude to the atrocities it had committed.

In December 1970, German Chancellor Willy Brandt fell spontaneously to his knees as he lay a wreath at the memorial for the Jews murdered in 1943 in the Warsaw Ghetto.

The iconic photo was seen by the entire world.

Q1: So what does that historical moment mean to you, I mean German people?

"We were happy, because we have history in Wrold War Two. And I think the whole nation was breathing and said 'OK, we did it'. It's done, there is a conclusion to it. I was certainly touched, because I am a very emotional peoson, always very interested in geopolitics in this, which are changing, we are going to the Tsgunami temple, shrine in Tokyo. He would be better advised to go to Nanjing, and say SORRY," said Nebe.

To this day, no post-WW2 Japanese government has apologized to China for the war crimes of Imperial Japan.

"The United States of America can quell the tension by encouraging its Japanese ally to return the Diaoyu Islands to China. And apologize to the Chinese people for the war crimes of Imperial Japan. Our world has become a global village. We depend on each other. We must respect and understand our diversity. The forces of history determine the future. Thank you," Nebe said.
