"Because this truck basically drives in an environment where driving is boring...and it never gets tired, distracted, so this is a much safer system," said Dr. Wolfgang Bernhard, member of board of managemnet, Daimler AG.
The company says the Future Truck 2025 should be on roads in 10 years. The autonomous truck is equipped with radar sensors and camera technology, to scan roads ahead and keep the engine and gearbox primed for what lies ahead.
The company conducted a successful test to cover a 30 km section of highway in Germany, with 40 tons of cargo. Daimler Trucks is investing one billion euros every year in research and development, to be ready for production in 2025.
