Despite a three-week-long ceasefire between Ukraine's army and armed opposition forces, the stand-off at Donetsk International Airport is intensifying. CCTV correspondent Stephanie Freid went to the airport to gauge the situation there, and filed this update.

Hearing blasts coming from Donetsk International airport for days, our team went to the site to check out the situation first-hand.

At the rebel checkpoint on the airport bridge, for obvious reasons, we were urged by armed militia to leave. Shelling intensified and we were scurried into the makeshift bunker.

We're hunkered down now inside a bunker at a checkpoint at the airport. We came here to see the situation and this position has come under attack.

"The Ukraine nationalist junta is trying to destroy us, but they will not succeed," a opposition fighter said.

During a lull in the crossfire we ventured to the nearby neighborhood. We encountered fresh damagelocals carting off weapons crates and billowing smoke. Aside from the obvious shelling that's happening here in the crossfire, something's obviously also been hit.

The area, we later discovered, houses a series of factories. A ceasefire may be the official decree but there's no sign of it here.
