Hong Kong police are now attempting to unblock streets that have been occupied by protesters for more than two weeks. The move is aimed at clearing the way for traffic. Police began the attempt early this morning. Some roads in Mongkok, Central and Wanchai have now been reopened. Police also cleared some barricades from the bustling shopping district of Causeway Bay.

In the process, police called on the protesters to listen to them, and leave the roads open for traffic. But the "Occupy Central" protesters have refused to remove the barricades. They reinforced barricades late on Monday, erecting bamboo scaffolding, and mixing concrete to pour over the foundations of their road blocks.
