The People's Liberation Army of China is holding a live-fire military exercise in the northeastern part of the country.

The drill, named Joint Action 2014-E, is the last of its kind this year. It is known for its scale and complexity. Monday's exercise featured an interaction between China's air force and infantry. Two surveillance aircraft took off from a pre-set location, and gathered intelligence. The data was then sent to control centers after a thorough analysis by intelligence experts.

More than ten transporting helicopters delivered infantry to a designated location, while the armoured troops fought for control of key spots. The live-fire part of the drill lasted for two hours. It tested the wartime performance of five different types of aircraft and their missions to conduct information-gathering, electronic interference, and ground combat.
