Experts believe the mammoth fossil could be 150 thousand years old, judging from the age of logs recovered near the site. Archeologists say this discovery provides a glimpse of the development of the area's environment. The fossil has been moved to the Qinghai Provincial Museum for further examination. The mammoth is an extinct species commonly equipped with long, curved tusks and a covering of long hair. They lived from around 5 million years ago to about 4,500 years ago in Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America.
