South Korea and the US have begun their regular joint military drills aimed at sharpening their defense capabilities against potential threats from DPRK.
The drill, named Max Thunder, is the two allies' second exercise this year, following the first in April.
The nine-day drill at the US air base at Gunsan, 274 kilometers south-west of Seoul, involves around 90 South Korean and US fighter jets as well as 1,200 military servicemen from the two nations. Max Thunder, first launched in 2008, is one of a handful of South Korea-US military exercises conducted regularly on and near the Korean Peninsula.
