Beijing's Municipal Commission of Development and Reform has announced new ticket prices for the city's buses and metros. The new prices will take effect on December 28.

The ticket price for buses will increase from 1 yuan to 2 yuan for travel within 10 kilometers. The price will increase 1 yuan for every additional 5 kilometers.

The cost of the metro will increase from 2 yuan to 3 yuan for travel within 6 kilometers. One yuan will be added for every 10 kilometers after 6 kilometers. For journeys more than 32 kilometers, one yuan will be added every 20 kilometers.

If a travel card is used, there will be a discount of 20 percent after spending 100 yuan, and a discount of 50 percent after 150 yuan — up to 400 yuan. Students will get a 75 percent discount, and children under 1.3 meters tall can ride for free.
