Watching remakes of classic films and characters are often on any fan's must-to-do list, but there's one franchise, whose sequel, more than 30 years in the making is sure to get movie goers in a frenzy. For Star Wars fans, the most anticipated moment of the year, and probably the decade, has arrived. The first trailer for J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", hit the web Friday.

'Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens' is unveiled.

The short clip doesn't give away much about the J.J. Abrams-directed sequel, though fans will be delighted to see the return of the Millennium Falcon, an R2-D2-style rolling droid and a new type of lightsaber. "The Force Awakens" is set 30 years after 1983's "Return of the Jedi" and the cast is a mix of fresh faces, up-and-comers and established names. Scoring the film is John Williams, who created the original trilogy's famous themes.

Principal photography recently wrapped on the movie, six months after it began. The shoot was one of the most closely followed productions in recent memory, with constant rumours emanating from the tightly guarded set. "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" will be released in December 2015.
