The draws for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League and Europa League took place in Switzerland yesterday. The first legs are to be played from February 17th-18th and the 24th-25th. Return matches are March 10th-11th and the 17th and 18th. The final is scheduled for June 6th at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.

Defending champion Real Madrid will play Schalke in the last 16 of the Champions League, a year after routing the Germans at the same stage last season.

In another repeat pairing in the draw, Barcelona will again travel first to play Manchester City. Last season, the Spanish giants won the away leg and then also at home to advance easily, Madrid 9-2 on aggregate and Barcelona 4-1.

Paris Saint-Germain hosts Chelsea in a repeat of last year's quarterfinals.

Arsenal will host Monaco first in a special pairing for long-time coach Arsene Wenger, who made his reputation at the French club in the 1980s.

Bayern Munich is away first against Shakhtar Donet-sk. And Juventus hosts Dortmund in the opening leg in a repeat of the 1997 final. Back then, Dortmund beat the heavily favoured Italians, who were the defending champions, 3-1. Also, Leverkusen will play Atletico Madrid and Basel will take on Porto.
