The US State Department is calling on the DPRK to compensate Sony Pictures for damages caused by the hacking of the movie company's computers and release of that information.

"As the FBI and the President and everyone has now made clear, we are confident that the North Korean government is responsible for this destructive attack," US State Department's spokesperson Marie Harf said. "We stand by this conclusion."

State Department spokesperson Marie Harf also said the DPRK had called for a joint investigation of the incident over the weekend. She said if the DPRK wants to provide assistance they should admit responsibility and compensate Sony for damage caused.

On Sunday, President Barack Obama said in an interview that Washington will reconsider whether to put the DPRK back onto its list of state sponsors of terrorism.

The DPRK was removed from the US list in 2008 as part of negotiations over the nation's nuclear program. The DPRK has again denied hacking Sony Pictures, and requested an apology from the US.
