Thousands come to see ancient fishing tradition

Temparatures continues to drop in Northern China's Jilin province, but it can't deter visitors from gathering at Chagan lake - One of the most popular winter destinations, best known for winter fishing.

Local says this year, the fishing season started from December 18th to next year's early March.

Local says this year, the fishing season started from December 18th to next year's early March. To get a deep look into the underwater world, a robot has been deployed by Harbin Engineer University this time. The robot is being placed underwater to see how the net is being stretched.

Chagan means "holy water" in Mogalian, the lake is home to 70 different species of fishes because its purity. In the coldest days of the year, that's when the winter fishing begin. Local drill holes and cast their nets.

The net is about 2 meters in width, but 2,000 meters in length. Fishermen need to drill a hole every 15 meters to keep it stretch properly. Quite a blessing way to celebrate the winter season.
