Singapore is holding a memorial for the over 50-thousand victims killed by invading Japanese troops during World War Two.

February 15th is commemorated across Singapore as Total Defense Day. It marks the day Singapore fell to Japan in 1942, beginning some three-and-a-half years of occupation, during which the local Chinese population was massacred.

Over a thousand people joined in the event this year to mourn the dead and reflect on the value of peace and the pain of war.
