Gunman shoots 8 dead in Czech town

Eight people were shot dead on Tuesday's attack in Druzba restaurant in Uhersky Brod, Czech Republic, said Czech Interior Minister Milan Chovanec who is flying to the site of the attack along with Police President Tomas Tuhy aboard a helicopter. He said the gunman of the attack is also dead.

Uhersky Brod Mayor Patrik Kuncar said an armed man broke into the pub and started shooting indiscriminately. He said the gunman shot himself after the attack. The perpetrator was a local man about sixty, apparently mentally unstable.

One injured woman was driven from the place. Uherske Hradiste hospital spokeswoman Dana Lipovska said that the woman was shot in her chest, the injury is serious.

The crossroads near the restaurant was closed and the area was sealed by the police. A special police team is now in the place.

Czech commercial television station Prima's spokeswoman Marie Fianova said that the gunman called the crime line Krimi zpravy of the station before his act.

According to Tomas Tuhy's spokeswoman Jana Macalikova, the Police President went to the place of the tragedy to express support for the police and the local community, she said it is "an extraordinary event."

Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka is shocked by the attack, he asked the Interior Minister Chovanec to oversee the investigation of the police personally.

Nine were dead in the attack including the gunman.
