Despite playing one of television's most recognizable characters -- Dr. Sheldon Cooper in 'The Big Bang Theory', Jim Parsons had never leant his unmistakable vocals to animation before. But recently he's stepped into the voiceover booth for DreamWorks' new movie, 'Home', which also sees Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez in the voicing cast.

In DreamWorks' new movie "Home", the 41-year-old Jim Parsons takes on the role of "Oh", a member of an alien race called "the Boov", who invade earth to hide from their mortal enemy, "the Gorg". In their attempts to relocate the planet's population, the Boov overlook a girl called "Tip", voiced by Barbadian singer, Rihanna.

"I think it's a beautiful (story), I think it's very entertaining and I think it's very funny, but I think it is a beautiful tale about, you know, being good to other people, letting other people be who they are, letting people be themselves. Figuring out who you are and revelling in that. I think it's just a very positive and optimistic view of how good the world can be," Parsons said.

Working with Rihanna wasn't so bad either. But if that wasn't enough, he also collaborated with another beautiful singer, Jennifer Lopez. The American all-rounder also leant her voice to the production, and herself and Riri both sing on the movie's soundtrack.

"It's funny to walk into a recording studio with Rihanna because it feels, well like this is her home base, but this is very different to recording an album and that was very evident when we first started working together. There was a lot of laughing between the two of us and a lot of trying to find your footing and stuff like that and in a good way, sort of a first day at school aspect to it that put two somewhat unlikely people together and found some common ground through that. I have to tell you she was really delightful to spend time with," Parsons said.

It's no secret that Parsons makes a comfortable living from his role on "The Big Bang Theory," and he admits the financial stability that this brings means he can afford to be choosy about his roles.

"I feel like the freedom it provides is more of, there's nothing you have to do you know? So long in an actor's life it's about, you really have to take what you can get and you need to pay the rent and these are real issues. I am really blessed in the situation - I don't have to take anything. But it doesn't give me unwieldy power to suddenly say 'and I want that.' It's still about the exact same amount of effort and passion and drive required to get any role still," Paosons said.

"Home" is released in the UK on March 20, and one week later in the U.S.
