On the Billboard Hot 100 chart, it supplanted Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk," which had enjoyed 14-week run at the top spot. Singer, songwriter Charlie Puth talks about the success of "See You Again."

Charlie Puth is adjusting to life in the fast lane. The 23-year-old newcomer is atop Billboard's Hot 100 chart with his Paul Walker tribute song featured in "Furious 7."

"I just think about where I was nine months ago, was just booking my own trip to Los Angeles and just begging people to get into the studios. And I just happened to get in the studio in Hollywood and I wrote the hook in 10 minutes for 'See You Again' because I knew that the movie company was looking for a song to have at the end of the movie for Paul Walker," Puth said.

"I got a response in like two minutes saying that 'that's it. That's the one.' So fast forward to now, it's number one in like 94 countries. I can't even believe I'm saying that to you right now with these lights on my face."

Wiz Khalifa raps while Puth sings the emotional hook on "See You Again." Hearing the song on the radio for the first time was overwhelming for Puth, who wrote it for a friend who died in a car accident.

"I turned the radio on and it was playing and I just started crying you know manly crying. But it was very overwhelming and emotional for me because I wrote this on for Paul. I wanted to write a record for Paul. But I also was thinking of my friend too when I wrote it. So hearing all these people, knowing that all these people are going to hear it was overwhelming for me," Puth said.

The New Jersey native, who was once signed to Ellen DeGeneres' record label, has been busy writing for other acts, including Trey Songz's latest R&B hit, "Slow Motion." He released his debut single, the Meghan Trainor-featured "Marvin Gaye," earlier this year.

"See You Again" has sold more than 700,000 digital tracks so far and helped the "Furious 7" soundtrack debut at No. 1 on Billboard's 200 albums chart last week. The film has also become a box office winner, earning nearly 300 million dollars so far.
