The Politburo has approved plans for the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area. Many administrative functions will be transferred from the Chinese capital to neighboring areas.

The approval will pave the way for the government to promote economic restructuring in the area to create new growth sectors and control Beijing's population. Priority will be given to traffic management, environmental protection, energy security and industrial upgrades. According to these plans, public services will be improved and the area will be made more comfortable for foreign enterprises to do business.
