It is the first time for Chinese soldiers to participate in a Russian Victory Day parade. The guard of honor is made up of the three services of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

Over 100 soldiers marched along the street in Moscow's Red Square in strict formation, with the famous Russian song "Katyusha" playing as background music. The troops arrived here late April, and have since been training and rehearsing for the event.

The Chinese soldiers are between 18 and 34 years old. China and Russia were two major battlefields in World War 2, both making historical contributions to the eventual defeat of fascist forces. Experts say China's participation in the parade on Saturday , a landmark event in China-Russia military exchanges, shows the strength of bilateral ties and the resolve of both countries to safeguard world peace.

Nine other countries --including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Serbia and Tajikistan -- also have military units in today's parade, with each country represented by 70 soldiers.
