And the Scot got an early break and kept the pressure on Nadal—keeping the Spaniard on his toes and even controlling baseline rallies, and then came up with an outstanding winner deep in the corner to go in front 4-1 in the opener.
Nadal tried to stay in the first set, serving at 2-5, and was able to show off some lovely hands at the net, getting a drop volley, but it only prolonged the inevitable, as the top seed lost the set 6-3.
The second set was even easier—as Murray forced Nadal into an error on match point— and claimed his first-ever win over the Spaniard on clay—as the Scot took a surprising 6-3, 6-2 over Nadal.
