Chinese nurses in South Sudan receive UN award

The nurses were feted just a day before International Nurses Day, which is today. The medical detachment is part of the Chinese peacekeeping contingent to the country and was awarded by the Wau Base of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.

Since the medical detachment arrived in the mission area in November 2014, it has received and treated more than 1,200 patients. As well as routine nursing work, the nurses have also participated in urgent, difficult, dangerous and important tasks, such as providing cross-border escort for seriously-ill patients and treating patients with severe gunshot wounds.
