And over in the city of the Oriental Pearl, another competition is nodding to a grand master. A brand new event at this year's Shanghai International Film Festival, the Jackie Chan Action Movie Week is finally underway. And the highly-acclaimed film star was, of course, available to discuss where he thought the action genre is currently at.

A brand new event at this year's Shanghai International Film Festival, the Jackie Chan Action Movie Week is finally underway.

Six of the ten most popular movies in mainland cinemas last year were action movies. And most of them were imported. Organizers say action movies have a large market in China, and they hope the action movie week will help the country cultivate more talents and resources. Actors Jackie Chan and Wu Jing shared their ideas at the festival on Chinese and foreign action movies.

"When I see the American action films, I found that they can make the action very vivid and risky with special effects. Before I also wondered why their actors' controlling of weapons is so good, then I found all the action scenes are filmed separately. But I still insist to do all the action scenes fluently by myself," he said.

"The key to an action movie is still the action. What satisfies audience the most is still the vivid feeling of actors' skills. That is irreplaceable. New technologies such as 3D effects don't mean action stars can relax," said Wu Jing, actor.

Movie fans say they have different ideas on action movies.

The action movie week will be a regular event at the film festival. More than 20 action movies will be screened in town this week as part of the festival.
