Amusement parks prepare for holiday period

Happy Valley in suburban Songjiang District is popular with young people during the summer. Many of the rides are designed to make visitors scream, but some visitors have concerns about their safety.

Chen Xincheng, the visitor said:"I would like to play in the water in summer, but I will also try these adrenaline rides. I will first consider safety." Park operators say visitors don't need to worry, as they perform routine checks of all rides.

"We will have workers checking those rides two to three hours before opening to visitors every morning. After routine checks, the rides will be run without visitors to make sure they are safe. Then they will open to visitors. Checks will be upgraded for weekly, monthly and yearly operations," said Wang Lei, Deputy Manager of Marketing in Happy Valley.

Park managers say they have also prepared sprays to cool down visitors as they wait in line in the hot summer and have medical kits near every ride. For indoor attractions, crowd control is a major challenge.

Hu Chen, Marketing Manager of Shanghai Changfeng Oceanworld said:"Usually summer holidays are our peak season for the kids, for families. For this year, the brand new Changfeng Ocean World, we developed and imported high-tech devices to guarantee the better experience, such like the new monitor and controlling systems to control the capacity."

Hu says the aquarium can hold up to 1,500 people at one time. The aquarium has set up a special program for children to learn more new fish through the story of Zheng He, a Ming Dynasty official who sailed along China's Maritime Silk Road.
