President Xi stresses strict management of troops

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for strict management and training of the army to adapt to new situations and tasks. He made the remarks when visiting the 16th Army Group in northeast China's Jilin province on Saturday.

Xi Jinping stressed the army should keep up military training and combat preparedness. The president is also Chairman of the Central Military Commission.

Xi Jinping said only strict management can improve combat capability. He stressed the rights and interests of lower officers and soldiers must be safeguarded. He directed leading cadres to set examples for the soldiers through discipline and fighting corruption.

The president referred to the damage caused by the actions of former commission vice chairman, Xu Caihou. Xi Jinping said Xu violated Party rules and broke the law.

The president said that negative impact must be eradicated. He called for upholding the proud tradition and sound work style of the Red Army.
