For the first time, China's female guards of honor will attend the military parade on September 3rd. The military says a total of 51 servicewomen from the Army, Navy and Air Force, will march alongside 156 male guards of honor.

For the first time, China's female guards of honor will attend the military parade on September 3rd.

In average, the servicewomen are 20 years old and 1-point-seventy-eight meters in height. They have been in active service since last May. They are the first females in the 63-year-long history of the People's Liberation Army, or PLA, honor guards.

In the upcoming parade, the PLA will dispatch the largest-ever honor guard formation. For the most formal occasions, such as the visit of a foreign head of the state, there are normally 151 honor guards at the welcome ceremony.
