The Democratic People's Republic of Korea says its main nuclear complex has resumed operations, after being shuttered in 2007. In an interview with the DPRK 's official KCNA news agency, the director of the DPRK's Atomic Energy Institute said all facilities at the Yongbyon nuclear complex -- including a five-megawatt reactor -- had "started normal operations".
The Atomic Energy Institute's director said scientists and technicians had been "steadily improving" the quality and quantity of the country's nuclear deterrent. He said the DPRK had been forced to do this because of the hostile policy of the United States.
On Monday, the DPRK's space agency said it was preparing for a new satellite rocket launch to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the ruling Workers' Party on October 10.
