Trust and respect are the keywords ahead of President Xi's visit to the US next week.

Speaking on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China and the US should respect each other, maintain a stable development and strengthen cooperation to maintain world peace.

"During President Xi's visit to the US, China will deliver a clear message to the US government and its public and to the whole world. That message is that as a major country in the East with a long history of over 5,000 years, China will stick to its own path of building a socialist country with its own characteristics, upholding independent and peaceful diplomacy, pushing forward the strategy of mutual benefits. China doesn't seek hegemony, but a peaceful development; China doesn't exercise power politics, but democracy in international relations; China doesn't play 'zero-sum' games, but pursues a 'win-win' situation; China isn't bent solely on profits, but wants the right values of justice and profits," Wang said.

Wang Yi also said Xi Jinping would bring up sensitive security issues in his talks with Barack Obama.

"China conducts necessary construction projects on its own islands in the South China Sea. This isn't targeted at any other country, but aims to improve the living conditions for troops stationed there, and to fulfil our responsibilities as the biggest country in the area. China and the US will strengthen dialogue on cyber issues and make joint efforts to crack down on any form of cyber crimes to safeguard cyber security and conduct various cooperations in this field. China is committed to playing a constructive role in building a peaceful, safe, open and cooperative world cyber space," Wang said.

Experts say President Xi Jinping's upcoming state visit will be very significant.

"President Xi Jinping's visit to the US will be a historical milestone, that will put China-US relations on the solid and right track. Because there are some debate in the Washington and in Beijing as well, so this visit will reaffirm the orientation of future China-US relations," Ruan Zongze, vice president of China Institute of Int'l Studies, said.

China and the US are jointly establishing a new model of major country relationship. Experts said the consensus that two countries have reached is that neither China nor the US benefits from confrontation, and cooperation will be the best approach to develop relations in the future.
