As we mentioned, it's estimated Chinese tourists will make some 500 million journeys during their one-week holiday. More tourists are choosing overseas destinations such as New York, Paris and Sydney.
There will be 11 percent more Chinese tourists heading overseas during this year's golden week, compared to last year. The majority of tourists are going to Japan, Thailand and South Korea. But tourists are also attracted to other continents, especially the U.S.
Chen Jie, Vice President of Caissa said:"The recent visit of the Chinese President Xi Jinping has pushed up enthusiasm for Chinese people to go to the U.S.. We have planned out about 20 tourist routes for the golden week, and they are all pretty much sold out. "
Other hot spots include Australia, Europe, and Africa. "Orders to these destinations increased by 150 percent from last year. Before only less than one third of Chinese tourists would travel to other continents. But this year's National Day, we've seen about 40 percent of people choosing to go there," said Dun Jidong, senior manager of Ctrip.com.
Some agents say prices of tourist packages have increased about 20 percent this year. Official statistics show that outbound tourism will reach about 32 billion yuan during the Golden Week holidays, with about 10 percent coming from on-line booking.
