Smothering smog is now blanketing the northeastern Liaoning Province and its neighboring regions. Weather authorities have issued an orange alert in the province, which stands for the second highest warning for heavy smog.

Experts say the start of winter heating supply in the northern China could be the major cause, as an increased amount of coal is being burnt for heating supply. Experts also suggest children, the elderly and people with respiratory issues to stay indoor.
