A Chinese rocket with the largest carrying capacity, Long March Five, has been placed on a launch pad in Wenchang city of South China's Hainan province Tuesday.
This was the debut of the latest generation rocket. The rocket is being tested in preparation for sending a lunar probe in 2017. Long March Five has a capacity of carrying more than a dozen tons to geostationary transfer orbit.
It uses non-toxic and non-polluting liquefied propellant, which helps ensure parts dropped after it enters outer space are kept within certain boundaries at sea. Its diameter has also been the widest so far among all rockets developed by China.
