The Special Olympics International has named Chinese tennis player Li Na as a Global Ambassador.

Special Olympics is an international organization that hopes to empower people with intellectual disabilities through sports, health education and community building.

Li Na is one of Chinese women's tennis most iconic figures. She will join with other ambassadors like Chinese basketball star Yao Ming and US swimming Olympic champion Michael Phelps, to promote the movement.

Li will work with the Special Olympics towards creating an "inclusive, equal and respectful" atmosphere for intellectually disabled people. Li says it is a great honor to be commissioned as a Special Olympics Global Ambassador.

"What I want to say here is that there's no difference between me and you all. I strongly believe that for all children who do sports, their ultimate goals are not winning the championship, but to be happy while doing so. As our host just said many people might be afraid of being labeled. They might think they cannot accomplish such a thing. But through great efforts, you can prove to other people that you can accomplish it by challenging yourselves. This is the most important thing," she said.
