Several roads in downtown Beijing have been inundated by floodwaters, affecting commuters and motorists. The authority has also added more buses to major routes to ease commuter build-up.

There has been at least one confirmed death, while 34 people remain missing after heavy rains hit north China's Hebei province Tuesday.

The province's weather bureau has raised a red alert for rainstorms, the highest one in the four-tier weather warning system. It advises people to prepare for secondary disasters like floods and landslides, as torrential rains will continue throughout the next few hours.
