Ma Long wins gold medal in men's singles table tennis

And for the latest from the Olympic city, we head now to Rio, and turn things over to Tracey Holmes and Dan Williams who are standing by at the Olympic Park. Good evening Tracey and Dan.

The Chinese team had a solid day in Rio that earned them a spread of medals with one gold, three silver, and two bronze in some of their traditionally strong events such as table tennis and shooting. Dan Williams is in the Olympic city to break it all down.

Third straight gold and silver finish for China in event

For the third Olympics in a row, it would be an all-Chinese final in the men's table tennis as World Number One Ma Long squared off against his teammate and defending champ Zhang Jike. It would be a close contest between two opponents very familiar with each other's game, but in the end it would be Ma triumphing Zhang Jike in four straight games to win the gold medal. China finishes one-two in the event for the third straight Games.

Romanian squad claims gold with 44-38 victory

To fencing and the women's epee team final where China won the silver medal after being defeated by Romania 44-38. The four-person Chinese team were the defending champions, but were edged by the Romanians this time around.

Germany's Engleder takes gold, China's Zhang Binbin silver

From swords to guns for the final of the women's 50 meter rifle three positions. China captured two spots on the podium as Zhang Binbin won the silver medal while her teammate Du Li claimed the bronze. The gold went to Germany's Barbara Engleder in her fourth and likely final Olympics.

USA's Biles wins individual all-around gold in her first Olympics

In women's gymnastics, China's Shang Chunsong would finish fourth in the individual all-around competition while compatriot Wang Yan came sixth in her first Olympics. The gold would be won by another debutante, the USA's Simone Biles who has dominated the sport since bursting on the scene.

Islanders crush Great Britain 43-7 in one-sided final

And the first gold medal in men's Rugby Sevens was awarded to Fiji who trounced Great Britain in a lopsided final 43-7 to give the Pacific Islanders their first medal at the Games. This is the first time rugby in any form has been an Olympic event since Paris 1924 when the 15 a-side version was played and the USA won the title.
