The U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday began its 71st session at U.N. Headquarters in New York, with a focus on the joint world efforts to carry out the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a blueprint for the global development efforts for the years up to 2030.

The global refugee crisis, Syria and climate change will be on the agenda. This assembly is also the last for the current U.N. chief, Ban Ki-moon.
