Cat cafes, where customers sip lattes while petting resident kitties, are just opening their doors around the U.S. and Europe. But in Asia, where the first one opened more than a decade ago, the concept has moved well beyond felines.

Raccoons, foxes and snakes relax at animal cafes

At Little Zoo Cafe in Bangkok, you can enjoy the meal while cuddling animals.

First Cat cafe opened in the US in 2014.

Now, there are about 20 across the nation.

In Europe, they recently opened in the Netherlands, Estonia, Finland and Italy.

In Asia, the first cat cafe opened in Taipei, in 1998. Now, there are more than 100 in Japan alone. Cafe-goers in Asia also share company with raccoons, meerkats, and even snakes.

Although some worry these places present health issues, cafe owners say they're just trying to help the animals.
