Figure skating at the NHK trophy in Osaka is the sixth and final stop in the ISU grand prix series and thus provides the last opportunity for skaters to qualify for the final in France next month.

In the pairs, China's Peng Cheng and Jin Yang, who were first after the short program, go on to finish in second place. That result combined with their runner-up performance in China sees them qualify for the Grand Prix final.

Two time world champions from Canada, Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford took top honours in Japan.

Over to the men's, as home favourite and 2014 Olympic gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu looked to claim another title. The Japanese would pull off three quadruple salchows in one program. Despite falling down on his third quad, Hanyu scored 301. 47 points to finish well in front.

In the women's, Russia's Anna Pogorilaya would post the top score to claim the title with 210.86 points.
