In his address, Wang Yi said that China has become more active and progressive in its diplomacy since the beginning of the year.

"China plays an important role in the evolution of the global governance system, as well as in regional peace and stability. For example, the relationship between China and the Philippines has improved. Also, a global partnership network has been formed generally, especially with developing countries. At the same time, China has made progress linking its Belt and Road Initiatives with other countries' domestic development projects," he said.

Wang Yi also stressed the importance of China's continuing development going into 2017. Next year, the country is set to host the BRICS leaders meeting and two major events connected to the Belt and Road Initiative.

"It will be the highlight of Chinese diplomacy when China holds the Belt and Road International Cooperation Forum next year. It is one of China's strategies, to boost the world economy. It will provide a great platform to deepen international cooperation. At the same time, it is also the innovative practice of productive cooperation," he said.

In closing, Wang Yi said China will continue to promote its domestic development and will also protect the legal rights and interests of Chinese nationals and corporations overseas.
